What happens when the engine has poor performance?

If the engine lacks power, it is necessary to determine whether the cause is the turbocharger or the engine. The most important thing is to check the boost pressure using the pressure gauge (manometer) which is placed behind the turbocharger. Depending on the engine and turbocharger type, the pressure should be from 0,8 to 1,2 bar. If the pressure is too low, the problem is the turbocharger.

Possible causes of the problem:

  •     resistance (blockage) or leakage in the exhaust line, prior to turbine
  •     resistance (blockage) or leakage in the delivery pipe, behind the compressor
  •     dirty or damaged compressed air cooler(intercooler)
  •     air leaks in the inlet manifold(seal)
  •     dirty air filter
  •     turbine and rotor damage, due to the entry of external parts: nuts, screws, ring parts, valves, etc.
  •     wear of rotor and bearings
  •     defective valve for boost pressure adjustment
  •     clogged turbocharger oil supply
  •     blocked mechanism for stator blades rotating at VNT turbochargers (if power is lacking only at low or only at high revs)
